In the framework of the LivestockSense project, the AKI Institute of Agricultural Economics invited stakeholders involved in precision livestock farming (PLF) in the pig and poultry sector to a focus group discussion on 19 January 2023. The event, attended by 21 participants from business (farmers, PLF developers and distributors), academia and policy makers, was primarily aimed at defining the attitude of pig and poultry farmers towards information and communication technologies (ICT). To this end, three focus groups were held to discuss issues that enabled the project researchers to take a multi-stakeholder approach to understanding the practical experiences of ICT use in these livestock sectors, the main characteristics of pig and poultry farms using smart technologies, to identify the main barriers to the uptake of ICT technologies and to outline possible solutions to stimulate their adoption.
